TRAVEL TEAM INFORMATION
RHAM Youth Baseball will also sponsor travel teams for players in Minors, 60 Foot Majors and 70 Foot Majors who have not been selected for tournament teams. These travel teams will not enter Cal Ripken tournament play but instead will play a varied schedule of tournaments, friendly games, and perhaps league play with other towns. The number of teams and the exact age groups will be determined by the interest of parents surveyed at registration and tryouts. It is the intention of Hebron Baseball that these teams will enter tournaments and/or play friendly games and/or join leagues. More information on these travel teams will be determined later in the season.
Information regarding Travel vs Tournament teams:
As there have been many questions regarding the changes that are listed above, the following is hopefully a simpler explanation of what we are doing with post season baseball. In the past Hebron Baseball has offered 4 tournament (All Star) teams in the 9, 10, 11 & 12 year old age groups. Players had to try out for these teams and could only play on the team in their respective age group (9 year olds could only play on the 9U team, 10 year olds could only play on the 10U team etc.) The tournament teams play in the Babe Ruth / Cal Ripken sanctioned district/state /regional tournaments once the regular season is over. Starting last year, we eliminated the 9U and the 11U tournament teams and only offered 10U and 12U tournament teams. 9 & 10 year olds will be able to play on the 9U tournament team and 11 & 12 year olds will be able to play on the 12U tournament team. Try outs are required to make these teams. There will be a total of 5 try out dates and every player will be required to make at least 3 of the try out dates. The first 2 dates are listed above. The reason for moving to 2 teams from 4 teams is (a) a declining baseball membership in all leagues (b) the ability to be more competitive with 2 teams and combined age groups (c) with the declining membership we will be forced into this scenario within 2-3 years. This is a proactive approach to get ahead of this scenario and make it work before we are forced into it. To be as transparent as possible, by moving to 2 tournament teams from 4 tournament teams, this means that approximately 24 less kids will have the opportunity to play Tournament (All Star) baseball. In light of this, we are creating travel teams also at the 10U and 12U levels. 9 & 10 year olds will be able to play on the 10U travel team and 11 & 12 year olds will be able to play on the 12U travel team. We have not yet determined if try outs or just signing up will be required for these teams. That will be determined by the interest in these teams. The plan is for these teams to play in local tournaments (Nutmeg tournament in New Britain, West Hartford local tournament etc.) and friendly games vs other towns. These teams would play after the regular season is over and through July. The idea of these teams is to keep kids playing baseball through the summer.
